Posted on 06 July 2017
This summer, in collaboration with a group of inspiring globetrotters, we're celebrating the all things sunshine, holiday, and travel. On the fifth instalment of our Traveler Series we invited the one and only Denise Lai to chat with us about her upcoming travel plan, holy grail travel essentials, and favorite destinations. If you're not already following Denise (and her too-cute fur baby Sumo) you're missing out. Go check out her Instagram or Blog to follow their documented adventures!
Denise is a lifelong go-getter who definitely likes to keep busy. She founded an independent fashion, food and lifestyle magazine, FIRSTLOVE, with her sister a couple years back. Splitting her time between Hong Kong and Shanghai, Denise is also an established graphic designer and fashion/ lifestyle blogger behind SUPERWOWOMG. Fun Fact: She is also an incredible cook! Denise occasionally shares her favorite recipes & daily adventures on her YouTube channel #DDTV – so be sure to check that out too!
What are 3 essentials can't leave home without and will never forget to bring?
1. Hand cream! My hands are pretty dry all the time, especially on the plane. I just got a cool new hand cream from Buly 1803 in Paris.
2. Headphones! I hate using the airplane ones..usually cos they don't fit in my tiny ears so I always make sure to bring my own.
3. A camera! I have a few handhelds that I rotate around or just simply use my iPhone. I take an average of 800-1000 photos each trip and even if I never end up doing anything with the photos, I just like to know that I have all those photos for memories or to show my future kids the adventures I've been on!

How many countries have you traveled to so far?
Who is your best travel buddy? What inspires you to travel and what do you hope to find?
I'm usually traveling with my husband so I just love going on this little adventures with him, discovering new restaurants and checking out local museums and exhibitions. We love people watching and observing the different ways of interactions that vary between countries. And of course when we travel, it's all about the food!!

Traveling allows one to explore cultures outside of our own. When you travel to a new destination, how do you immerse yourself in the local scene?
Our main attraction when traveling is eating haha so we love exploring the local food culture and seeking out local food spots. Luckily most places we've been to, we've known a friend or two who live there so we always get a cool local tour of the city.

Being an avid traveller, what is one of the places that you would recommend visiting? Why?
I just love going to Tokyo. I know it's so typical of an answer but I just love the city. The food is just so omg. Sometimes when I'm back at home I literally dream of the meals I had in Tokyo haha. And the shopping..oh man so dangerous for my wallet!! The city is on some next level intensity but in the best way.

Do you have any travel plans coming up?
Nothing planned so far but we're hoping to do a quick hop-over to Japan again! We've visited Tokyo countless times but am hoping to finally venture out to discover Osaka or Kyoto!
We hope you enjoy this instalment. In case you're new here or if you missed the previous instalments on Traveler Series, make sure you check them out for some wanderlust inspiration. Stay tuned for our interview with Hong Kong-based creative director & branding designer, Karina Ha next week!
